omni vortex (of doom)click any picture to enlarge The ultra cheap must have omni vortex (of doom): on first seeing the various laser vortex's my first thought was those are so cool i've always wanted one. On realizing how easily the effect is created I realized how cheap it would be to finally own one of my very own. if you think it's cool too building this version the omni vortex could not be cheaper or easier: Materials: 1 fog machine if you dont have this you might wanna stop right here. 1 oust fan look for supermarket promotions to save more off the suggested retail or try ebay. 1 laser pointer I got mine at my local five below seems to be here as well. 1 small mirror mine is a perfect little 2 inch mirror from joann fabrics exacto (hobby, boxcutter or other)knife glue (I used hotglue) optional: (soldering iron, solder, and a 4 inch piece of wire) if you paid full retail for everything new including the tools it would probably cost about... $20.00 fog machene Construction: 2. heat up your hot glue and pull one of the mirrors out of the package. 3. drip a as big a glob of glue onto just the center of the fan being careful not to hinder the movement of the fan blades and immediately stick the back of the mirror on the glue keeping the mirror at a slight tilt mine is flat against one edge and the opposite side of the mirror is raised about 1/4 inch.hold the mirror there till the glue dries ushally about a minute for hot glue. optional: 5. cut open the back of the oust fan to reveal the back of the motor. 6. solder your wire to the lead on the left 8.solder the other end onto the solder point shown below finally: all thats left now is to fire up your fog machene get a good fog going and aim your laser pointer at the mirror. the vortex will work in minimal light but the darker the better. |
